The story of Friterie du Miroir

For centuries, the humble fry has had its place in every village in Belgium. It has even travelled the world and carved out a spot for itself there. If Friterie du Miroir exists today, it is to do it honour.

My mad love affair with the Belgian fry

Hello, I am David Antoine@davidantoineRadio and television presenter, founder of Friterie du MiroirHe sent the very first packet of fries into space, created the ‘La 16/20’ sauce with Brussels Ketjep and travelled the country for La Meilleure Friterie.InstagramFacebookTikTok. If you follow me on the radio or on television, you probably know that I never quite grew up. And here is my greatest childhood dream: to open my own chip shop. A real one, authentic, unpretentious, and without any fuss.

My whole life has been set to the rhythm of this passion for our national treasure. I have done some completely mad things out of love for the fry: the very first packet of fries in space, the creation of the ‘La 16/20’ sauce with Brussels Ketjep, and I travelled the country presenting the show La Meilleure Friterie. I have seen plenty, tasted plenty, and learned the secrets of my friends behind the fryers.

Twenty years in Jette, a dream quietly brewing

But for that dream to come true, it needed somewhere to take root. I have now been coming to Jette for 20 years. Twenty years in which my Brussels life was built here, and played out in large part on this Place du Miroir. And to tell you the truth, for 20 years I have carried this mad dream around: to take over this iconic chip shop one day.

Black, yellow, red and no fuss

Today, Friterie du Miroir finally opens its doors, and I make you a promise, looking you straight in the eye: here, we will never cut corners. We are going back to the essentials, to the raw, to the real.

My promise? Fresh fries made the traditional way, cooked to perfection in beef dripping, and a warm welcome in a fritkot that proudly flies our colours: black, yellow, red.

It is authentic, it is Belgian, and it is thoroughly Jette. I cannot wait to see you at the counter, cone in hand !
